Muizzu Government Has Failed Workers, Says Fayyaz
Former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has criticized President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration in a message marking International Workers’ Day, accusing the government of failing Maldivian workers.
In a social media post shared on May Day, Fayyaz said workers remain at the center of building an equitable nation, but alleged that the current administration has failed to create conditions for people to earn a dignified living.
He claimed excessive and unproductive state spending has worsened inflationary pressures while wages remain stagnant, adding that rising fuel costs linked to global developments are placing further strain on ordinary citizens.
Fayyaz also criticized what he described as the expansion of political and state-appointed jobs, alleging that political loyalty has been prioritized over merit and competence.
Warning that the country is heading toward financial and moral decline, he said President Muizzu’s administration must be held accountable for economic policies that he says are harming workers and the wider economy.
