Fayyaz Condemns The Gulf Attacks, Urges Global South to Lead New Order

Former Maldivian Finance Minister Fayyaz Ismail has strongly condemned what he described as a “devious attack” on Iran by Israel and the United States, warning that the Middle East risks further destabilization if current geopolitical trends continue.

In a post published on X, Fayyaz accused Israel and the United States of pursuing a broader agenda aimed at reshaping the Middle East. He claimed that Western powers would not rest until a “completely reshaped Middle East” aligned with Israeli strategic interests is realized reflecting growing frustration in parts of the Global South amid escalating regional tensions.

The former minister also questioned the credibility of what he termed a Western-led human rights and democratic system, arguing that it has lost moral authority. “Without a just international order there will be no peace but empire and impunity,” he wrote, calling for the emergence of a new global champion to restore “honour and trust” in international affairs.

Fayyaz further urged countries of the Global South to assume leadership in advancing a more people-centered framework for global governance. He warned that if Iran were “decimated,” geopolitical pressure could gradually shift toward other regional powers, including Turkey and Egypt.

In addition to his criticism of Western powers, Fayyaz also took aim at the Maldivian government, expressing concern over what he described as its silence on the issue. He suggested that remaining neutral or silent in the face of escalating conflict undermines the country’s moral standing and called for a clearer position reflecting principles of justice and international accountability.
