Yameen Ready to Work With Nasheed and Solih
Former President Abdulla Yameen has said he is prepared to work together with former presidents Mohamed Nasheed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in defense of press freedom.
Speaking to local media, Yameen said attacks on press freedom are unacceptable under any circumstances. He stressed that recent actions targeting journalists and media freedom should not be tolerated.
Yameen’s remarks are being viewed as a significant political development that could pave the way for a new opposition coalition in the Maldives. A political alliance involving Yameen, Nasheed, and Solih would dramatically reshape the country’s political landscape.
The first public call for such a coalition was made by former Maldivian Democratic Party chairperson Fayyaz Ismail.
