President Defends Ihusaan Despite Actions, Contradicting His Own Principles
President Mohamed Muizzu has defended Home Minister Ali Ihusaan over the release of personal information related to individuals involved in certain cases, despite acknowledging that such actions go against accepted standards.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office today, Muizzu responded to a journalist’s question regarding the issue. He said the disclosure of information was carried out under unavoidable circumstances.
The President noted that Minister Ihusaan had, on multiple occasions, shared personal information of individuals connected to major cases with both the media and the public.
Muizzu admitted that such disclosures are not in line with international standards or even practices he personally agrees with. However, he stressed that the information was released due to external pressure.
He further stated that officials involved in handling these cases were under significant stress, and that some level of information had to be made public to address allegations and defend those accused of wrongdoing.
“In certain situations, it becomes necessary to release some information,” the President said.
Muizzu emphasized that making such disclosures is not something done as a general practice, but rather in response to specific circumstances. He added that there must be a balance, where the rights of one individual are respected without violating the rights of others.
