Former President Abdulla Yameen launched a scathing attack on the government during a rally he led last night at Artificial Beach, accusing the country’s leadership of corruption, deception, and betrayal of the people’s trust.

Speaking at the gathering, titled “Wake Up”, Yameen questioned whether Maldivians could truly say they were living happy lives under the current administration. He claimed that only government leaders and their close allies were benefitting, while ordinary citizens continued to struggle.

“Their pockets are filling with bribe money while citizens suffer,” Yameen declared, accusing the ruling elite of enriching themselves at the expense of the people.

He further alleged that the government survives on “thousands of lies and false promises,” which he said are continuously masked with more deception. Echoing his past warnings, Yameen likened the administration’s practices to what he described as a “deep state.”

The former president also extended his criticism to other politicians, accusing them of failing to stand up for the public and instead aligning with the same structures he claims are eroding the nation’s democracy.

The “Wake Up” gathering drew a significant turnout of supporters, with Yameen using the platform to rally public discontent and position himself as a voice against what he described as widespread corruption and dishonesty in government.
