Former VP Faisal Interested in MDP Presidential Ticket, Says He Is Working Towards It
Former Vice President Faisal Naseem says he is interested in contesting the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential primary and is actively working toward that goal.
Speaking on Adhadhu's 'Etherefuh' programme, Faisal said he has aspirations for the country's future and believes it would be unrealistic for anyone to claim he has no interest in seeking the MDP presidential ticket.
"The interest is there, the ambition is there, and I am working towards it," Faisal said.
Faisal stressed that as the country's main opposition party, the MDP must focus on delivering on the promises it makes to the public. He said the party should do everything necessary to secure victory in the 2028 presidential election.
He also said the MDP would have a strong chance of winning if former presidents Mohamed Nasheed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih worked together in unity. Regardless of who ultimately wins the party's presidential primary, Faisal said the entire party must unite behind that candidate.
Reflecting on his tenure as vice president, Faisal said he had long envisioned bringing meaningful change to the country and has continued working towards those goals since then.
