210 Education Projects Underway: Minister

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has said that 210 education infrastructure projects are currently being implemented across the Maldives to strengthen the country’s education sector.

The minister made the remarks while answering questions from members during today’s sitting of Parliament.

Responding to a question from Machangolhi Central MP Ahmed Sameer, Shafeeu said the ongoing projects include the construction of more than 1,200 classrooms, some of which have already been completed.

He added that the projects also cover the development of more than 3,500 school support facilities, including school halls, toilet blocks, libraries, and office buildings.

Providing financial details, the minister said the total value of the projects is MVR 2.98 billion, adding that approximately MVR 600 million has been spent on the projects so far.

According to the Ministry of Education, these projects are aimed at addressing space constraints in schools across the country and improving the facilities needed to deliver quality education. They form part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen educational infrastructure nationwide.
