Muizzu, Xi Reinforce China-Maldives Partnership with Renewed 2024–28 Strategic Plan

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reinforced Maldives’ diplomatic ties with China during his second official visit, holding high-level discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping alongside participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
In remarks shared on social media, President Muizzu expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown by Chinese officials and highlighted the importance of the visit.“I had the honor of meeting His Excellency President Xi Jinping today in Tianjin. We agreed to accelerate ongoing initiatives and explore new opportunities to expand cooperation. Our partnership, rooted in decades of friendship and goodwill, was once again reaffirmed,” he said.
Talks between the two leaders focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, economic growth, investment, and security. Both sides emphasized the importance of sustaining the development partnership under the newly launched China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership (2024–2028).
President Muizzu voiced confidence that the framework would deliver practical outcomes for both nations:
“I firmly believe our relations will continue to grow stronger under this partnership, bringing shared benefits to the people of China and the Maldives.”
The President’s Office reported that President Xi welcomed Muizzu warmly, noting the significance of the visit in reinforcing bilateral ties. Xi further reiterated China’s readiness to support the Maldives’ development priorities and emphasized maintaining a result-oriented relationship.
Beyond trade and development, discussions extended to security cooperation and cultural exchanges. Both leaders expressed commitment to elevating bilateral relations to a new level, underlining the long-standing nature of the partnership and its forward-looking agenda.
The visit concluded with a joint pledge to deepen cooperation and advance shared goals over the next four years.
