Measles Cases Continue to Rise, Total Reaches 144
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed that 23 new cases of measles were detected in the Greater Malé area during the past week alone, bringing the total number of reported cases this year to 144.
In response to the continued spread of the disease, the HPA has urged the public to follow preventive measures to help contain the outbreak.
According to the latest figures released by the agency today, a total of 144 measles cases have been reported so far this year. The HPA has also issued guidance for people who suspect they may be infected.
The agency advised anyone who has been tested for suspected measles to self-isolate until their test results are available. It also urged individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever accompanied by a red skin rash to avoid public places where they could expose others to the virus.
In addition, the HPA advised anyone who develops a fever and red rash to seek medical attention without delay. People visiting healthcare facilities with these symptoms are also encouraged to wear a face mask to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus to others.
The HPA said that every confirmed measles case is investigated in line with standard public health procedures to determine the source of infection. The agency is also continuing contact tracing efforts to identify individuals who may have been exposed to confirmed cases as part of its ongoing response to the outbreak.
