U.S. Attacks Venezuela, Claims Maduro Captured
Uncertainty continues to surround the status of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro following reports of U.S. military strikes in and around Caracas, as conflicting claims emerge and independent verification remains absent.
The confusion stems from a public statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said Maduro had been “captured” and removed from Venezuela during what he described as a large-scale American operation. While the claim has been widely reported, no independent confirmation has been provided by international news agencies, observers on the ground, or multilateral institutions.
Venezuelan authorities have not acknowledged any arrest, instead accusing the United States of carrying out a military attack on Venezuelan territory. Residents reported explosions, low-flying aircraft and power outages in the capital and nearby regions, after which the government declared a state of emergency and denounced what it called a violation of sovereignty.
The U.S. administration has yet to release detailed information about the operation, leaving key questions unanswered, including the scope of the strikes and the whereabouts of the Venezuelan president. Analysts caution that claims involving the detention of a sitting head of state typically require multiple independent confirmations.
As diplomatic concern grows and calls for international engagement intensify, Maduro’s status remains unclear, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding both Venezuela’s leadership and the broader regional implications of the unfolding crisis.
