President Mohamed Muizzu has established a new office under the President’s Office to oversee matters related to the Maldives’ territorial boundaries.

The newly formed body, titled the “Office on Maldives’ Territorial Affairs,” will be responsible for defining and managing the country’s territorial boundaries and addressing related issues in a coordinated manner.

The creation of this office was first announced by President Muizzu on February 5 this year, during his Presidential Address to the People's Majlis. The move is seen as a key step in strengthening national sovereignty and safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity.

According to the President’s Office, the new entity will play a leading role in resolving disputes and issues related to maritime boundaries, working closely with relevant government agencies and international partners.

In addition, the office will be tasked with determining official baselines and boundary limit coordinates of the Maldives, as well as providing information on boundary maps and related legal instruments.

The government believes that these efforts will enhance the management and protection of the country’s maritime territory.
