Muizzu Avoids Direct Condemnation of US-Israel Strikes, Says Maldives “Stands with Arab Islamic Countries”
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today, stopped short of directly condemning reported military attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, adopting a measured tone during a press conference held at the President’s Office.
Responding to pointed questions from journalists, President Muizzu did not explicitly denounce the actions of the US and Israel, nor did he directly address reports surrounding the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader. Instead, he stated that the Maldives “stands with the Arab Islamic countries” and is actively engaging with them on the evolving situation.
The President added that the Maldives condemns “attacks by all countries, including Iran,” signaling a broader stance against military escalation rather than singling out any specific party.
Muizzu further revealed that he has initiated contact with heads of state from countries reportedly targeted by Iranian strikes, underscoring what he described as ongoing diplomatic engagement amid heightened regional tensions.
His remarks come as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate following reciprocal attacks involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
While several countries have issued strong statements either condemning or supporting specific actions, the Maldives’ position appears calibrated to emphasize solidarity with the wider Arab and Islamic bloc while avoiding direct criticism of major global powers.
