Trump Signs Charter Establishing ‘Board of Peace’ at Davos Summit
U.S. President Donald Trump formally signed the founding charter of the Board of Peace on 22 January 2026, during a ceremony on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. The new international body is aimed at promoting conflict resolution, post-conflict reconstruction and long-term stability in war-affected regions, beginning with the Gaza Strip but with a broader global remit, according to Trump.
Trump, who will serve as the board’s chairman, described the initiative as having “the potential to be one of the most consequential bodies ever created,” and said it would work in cooperation with existing institutions, including the United Nations.
Founding members from more than a dozen countries primarily from the Middle East, Central Asia, South America and Europe stood with Trump at the signing in Davos. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Argentina were among those represented, although several traditional Western allies did not attend.
The Board of Peace was initially conceived as part of efforts to solidify a ceasefire and oversee reconstruction in the Gaza Strip after prolonged conflict. Under the charter, permanent membership carries a significant funding requirement, and participation is subject to invitation by the chairman.
