A special sitting of Parliament has been scheduled for tomorrow to consider legislative amendments that would criminalise gambling.

According to the agenda released by Parliament, the sitting will focus on proposed changes to the Penal Code to explicitly classify gambling and the operation of gambling venues as criminal offences. The special sitting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.

The bill to amend the Penal Code has been submitted by the Member of Parliament for Hithadhoo Central, Ahmed Azaan, and has been placed on the agenda for debate during the sitting.

In addition, a separate bill proposing amendments to the Constitution has also been included on the agenda. However, details of this constitutional amendment have not yet been made public. The bill was submitted by PNC parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Falah.

Alongside these two bills, Parliament is also set to conduct the first reading of a bill proposing amendments to the Pension Act during the same sitting.
