Police Launch Operation Riveli to Curb Crime Ahead of New Year’s Eve

The Maldives Police Service has launched Operation Riveli, a special security operation aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order in the lead-up to and during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The operation involves heightened police presence and intensified patrols across Malé City, Hulhumalé, Vilimalé and other key areas, where large public gatherings and increased movement are expected as the year draws to a close. Police said the initiative is focused on deterring criminal activity, ensuring swift response to incidents, and safeguarding the public during celebrations.

Authorities noted that Operation Riveli is part of routine year-end security planning, with officers deployed strategically to monitor public spaces, entertainment areas, and high-traffic locations. The operation is also intended to enhance public confidence and ensure celebrations take place in a safe and orderly manner.

The Maldives Police Service has called on the public to cooperate with officers and report any suspicious behaviour, emphasising that public safety remains a shared responsibility as the country prepares to welcome the New Year.
