Eight Dead, Dozens Injured in Explosion Near Red Fort, New Delhi
An explosion near the historic Red Fort in New Delhi on Monday evening killed at least eight people and injured more than twenty others. The blast occurred near Gate 1 of the Lal Qila Metro Station, setting nearby vehicles on fire and sending plumes of smoke over Old Delhi.
Emergency teams and forensic investigators rushed to the site, and authorities have cordoned off the area while they determine whether the explosion was accidental or deliberate. Delhi Police said all possibilities are being examined, and the Ministry of Home Affairs has placed the capital on high alert.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have been briefed, with Shah vowing “strict action” against those responsible. The incident comes days after a large cache of explosives was found in nearby Faridabad, though officials have not confirmed any connection.
The Red Fort area remains under tight security as investigators review CCTV footage and examine the vehicle believed to have triggered the explosion.
