Muizzu Appoints Sacked Ministers and Former AG as Ambassadors-at-Large in Surprise Reshuffle
President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed three individuals, including former cabinet members who were recently dismissed, as Ambassadors-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Those appointed to the positions are former Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar, former Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim, and former Attorny General Dhiyana Saeed.
A senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the appointments to local media. Adam Shareef Umar has already assumed his duties and reported to the ministry today.
Dhiyaana Saeed, who was also appointed, had recently been active in public discourse, particularly expressing strong views during the public consultation vote on aligning presidential and parliamentary elections. She previously served as Deputy Speaker during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Adam Shareef Umar and Thoriq Ibrahim were among the cabinet ministers dismissed by President Muizzu following the government’s poor performance in the recent local council elections, during which around ten ministers were removed from their positions.
