The Government of Maldives has reaffirmed its commitment to the One China Policy, stating that it recognises the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing all of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.

In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, the government said this position has been consistently upheld by the Maldives since the establishment of diplomatic relations with China in 1972.

The statement emphasised the Maldives’ adherence to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, mutual respect, and non-interference in internal affairs, describing them as fundamental pillars of international relations.

The government also expressed concern over actions by certain parties that it said seek to undermine these principles, reiterating its opposition to any attempts that challenge China’s sovereignty and territorial unity.

Reaffirming its foreign policy stance, the Maldives said it remains committed to strengthening its long-standing bilateral relations with China, highlighting the importance of cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests.

The statement comes amid heightened international attention on cross-strait relations and reflects the Maldives’ continued alignment with its established diplomatic position on China.
