In a powerful display of global disapproval, dozens of country delegations exited the United Nations General Assembly chamber on September 26, 2025, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his speech that emphasized continued military operations in Gaza. Critics say the walkout exposed growing international outrage at what many consider Israel’s increasingly brutal campaign.

Netanyahu used his speech to reject the recognition of a Palestinian state by the UK, Canada, Australia, and others, calling it “sheer madness.” He vowed to “finish the job” against Hamas and to maintain pressure on Gaza, while barely referencing a path toward peace.

Hundreds of seats emptied just as his address began. Observers report that over 100 diplomats from more than 50 nations, many from Arab and Muslim countries led the exit. Their protest was echoed outside the UN headquarters, where thousands rallied calling for an end to what they described as Israel’s genocide and war crimes in Gaza.

Human rights organizations and media watchers said Netanyahu’s tone hardened rather than reconciled, reinforcing perceptions of irreversibility in Israel’s approach. Meanwhile, the walkout has become a symbol of global rejection of his policies and rhetoric, especially as civilian casualties mount and humanitarian access remains obstructed.

For critics, the lesson is clear: when states refuse to confront injustice, silence becomes complicity. The walkout at the UNGA wasn’t just a protest against words, it was a rebuke of a policy that, they say, now bears too heavy a human cost.
